In a career spanning over 50 years, Chattanooga native Mark Reneau has dedicated his life to music, shaping both his own career and the musical communities around him. He played his first professional concert with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera in 1971 and will perform his final official concert with the orchestra later this year. He served as Associate Concertmaster with the CSO from 1982 to 1998 and was Concertmaster of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra from 1998 to 2017. His orchestral career also includes performing with the Nashville Symphony, the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Bellingham Music Festival (Bellingham, WA).

Mark’s esteemed teachers and mentors include Roberta Figgins, Jane Reeder, Francis Elliott, Donald Zimmer, William Preucil, and Shirley Givens. Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Renée Fleming, Isaac Stern, Dave Brubeck, Vince Gill, and many others. He has toured nationally and recorded extensively in both classical and commercial music.

A dedicated educator, Mark has taught violin at multiple universities and at The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts since 2000. When not performing, he enjoys fine food, literature, cooking, and foreign travel. His favorite form exercise is jumping to a few conclusions every day.
